New to Mushroom Growing?
Can beginners successfully grow mushrooms at home?
Absolutely!
Our ready-to-use substrates and all-in-one grow bags are designed for simplicity. Just add spores or liquid culture, maintain the right conditions, and watch your mushrooms flourish.
What types of mushrooms are easiest for beginners to grow?
We recommend starting with dung-loving species.
Our HB4 substrate is perfect for these varieties, while our all-in-one grow bags offer flexibility for various species.
Both options provide an ideal growing medium to maximize your chances of success.
Do I need special equipment to start growing mushrooms?
To begin, you'll need just a few basic items:
- Sterile gloves
- 70% isopropyl alcohol spray
- Spore syringe or liquid culture
- Paper towels
- Scissors or utility knife (for later use)
- Spray bottle with distilled water
- A warm, dark space for colonization
- A place with indirect light for fruiting
How long does it typically take to grow mushrooms?
The growth cycle varies by species, but with our optimized substrates, you can expect to see results within 3-6 weeks for most varieties to colonize the Multigrain Spawn.
And 3-6 weeks once the Multigrains and HB4 Substrate are combined.
Remember, patience is key in mushroom cultivation – the wait is part of the magic!
What are the basic conditions needed for growing mushrooms?
Mushrooms thrive in specific conditions:
• Light: Indirect or ambient light (avoid direct sunlight)
• Humidity: 70-90%
• Temperature: 60-75°F (15-24°C) during fruiting and 72-78°F during colonization; for most dung loving varieties.
• Air exchange:
Consolidation: No fresh air.
Fruiting: Gentle, fresh air circulation
Practical tips:
• Use a closet or spare room for consistent conditions
• Mist with water 2-3 times daily during fruiting cycle to maintain moisture

About Us
Mountain Made has been a passion project from inception. Our founder and CEO started experimenting with growing his own mushrooms after they were credited with saving his life following a major traumatic brain injury (TBI) from a snowmobile accident. Despite the challenges of learning to walk and talk again, he defied conventional recovery expectations, thanks in part to his consumption of a blend of mushrooms before the accident. These mushrooms helped maintain his neuroplasticity, allowing the reconnection of damaged synapses.
Determined to find reliable substrates and grains to support his new journey, he dove into research and countless comparison grows. This dedication led to the development of the HB4 Substrate and Sterilized Multi Grains, designed for both beginners and seasoned growers. Our products provide the perfect biological foundation for healthy, fast, and repeated mycelium colonization with multiple successful flushes.
Our commitment to quality means you can trust our substrates to deliver consistent, reliable yields. We’ve crafted solutions that ensure robust mycelial growth and minimize contaminants. Today, Mountain Made is here to support your mushroom-growing journey, helping you achieve outstanding results with ease.
Our Facility
Mountain Made Products are produced at our facility in the West Elk Mountains of Colorado. We’ve partnered with a test lab to ensure our products are successful at all stages of the grow.
We use the finest ingredients we can get our hands on to insure we have the smallest possible threshold for contamination as a result of our inputs. Sterility is a huge factor in the success of any mycologist so we’re doing our part to limit possible exposures.
We’ve spent years dialing our formulas, tweaking everything from cook times and temps to cure times and shelf life tests to have optimal inputs for home growers to commercial operations.
